I receive several questions about the envelopes I use for my greeting cards. Such as – what kind of envelopes do I use to send them? Where do I get my envelopes from? Do I have a bulk supply of various sized envelopes. Those are great questions because my greeting cards aren’t always the same size.

As much as I enjoy making greeting cards, I also like making the envelopes. Yep, I make my own envelopes…well…kinda. I use an envelope board punch and it’s the greatest invention ever, it’s easy to use too. There’s a ton of envelope sizes to select from based on the card size made. There’s even a size for gift cards.

See the full tutorial of the envelope below. Also, the post for the ice cream birthday card I made for my niece is here.

Instructions –

This is the envelope maker.

The size of the card is 3″ x 4.5″ – I marked the envelope maker with washi tape just for reference.

First, I selected a 12×12 sheet of paper that I thought worked well with the card.

Then, with a paper trimmer, I cut the paper down to 6.5″ x 6.5″ per the size requirements indicated on the board.

For the first part of the envelope I lined up the paper against the top left ruler to the 2.75″ mark (the score lines vary depending on envelope size).

Once it was lined up, I used the punch.

While keeping the paper in place, I used the scoring tool to score the paper.

This is what the punch and score looks like.

Then I rotated the paper 90 degrees counterclockwise and lined up the score line with the score guide (the pointy part of the punch). I then punched and scored the paper.

I repeated this process two more times. This is the results –

For the last part, I rounded the corners using the reverse punch, located on the opposite side of the main punch.

Now that the envelope shape has taken place, I folded the envelope into shape.

And then I glued the sides.

The envelope is complete!
