It’s official. We’ve lived in Texas now for one month and some days. Just last month my husband and I left California. Although we miss our families, we absolutely love it out here. Luckily, my sister and brother-in-law live just a stones throw away and my niece will be visiting here in a few weeks.
Oh yes, I’m fully on board with embracing the Texas culture. I have yet to use the word y’all, but I do foresee it in my future. And sometime before the year is up, my sister and I plan on taking country line dancing classes.
On a sidenote, we were walking Cinco (our chihuahua) and came across a copperhead snake with its mouth open – ready to lurch. Wowza!! Now, we would often see and hear rattlesnakes near our home in California and steered clear of them. But as far as I know, copperheads are quiet. And if bit by one, the anti-venom costs a fortune.
So anyway, I’ve been a bit homesick so I’ve been keeping busy by making greeting cards to send to my family and friends. Check it out.
Supplies
- Watercolor Paper (folded 4×6)
- Peony Stamps and Dies
- Die Cut Machine
- Acrylic Block (medium and long)
- Black Ink
- Green Ink
- Hello Stamp
- Brush Pens (brights and galaxy)
- Paper Trimmer
- Watercolor Brush
- Washi Tape
- Blending Palette
Step One
First, I placed the peony dies from The Ton Stamps onto the edge of the watercolor paper. I didn’t want the dies to move, so I held them down with washi tape.
Then I ran the dies through my die cut machine. Most important to mention, I only wanted to do a partial cut of the die so I placed the top layer of the clear cutting mat on just a portion of the die then rolled it through.
After I ran the die through, I cut the remaining portion of the watercolor paper with my paper trimmer (scissors work too).
Step Two
Next, I placed the coordinating peony stamps onto a medium acrylic block, covered the stamp with black ink, and stamped it onto the partial die-cut flower.
Step Three
Afterward, I took various pink brush pens, colored onto a blending palette, wet my brush, and painted the flowers. I followed the same process for the leaves but with green ink.
Step Four
Last, I used a long acrylic block, placed the hello stamp from Ink Blot Shop on top, inked it with the same black ink I used for the flowers and stamped that onto the card.
