Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale.

Am I the only Gillian’s Island fan?

Now, the story line didn’t make any sense. Nada. Zero. Zilch. It was a three-hour tour yet the Howell’s brought their millions? Ginger and Mary Ann brought their wardrobe?

Then, many strangers visit the island and none of them wanted to help rescue this stranded group? I understand it’s for story line purposes but come on. And how come they aren’t the least bit tanned or burned?

Aside from my skepticism, I still love the show and refuse to watch the episode where they are rescued!

Anyway, I received this butterfly die cut from The Ton Stamps. Coincidentally, I just finished the episode where the butterfly collector tracks the rare Pussycat Swallowtail Butterfly to the island. Remember that one? I believed it to be a sign. I needed to create something with a butterfly!

I guess I’d have to say Gillian’s Island is my muse. Check out my butterfly greeting card.

Supplies

Step One

First, I colored onto the blending palette with brush pens (373 and 476). I wet my waterbrush with some water and grabbed some brush pen ink from the palette (lighter color first), and colored the watercolor paper. Once the paper was colored in enough with the lighter color, I let it dry before continuing the same process with the darker brush pen. Don’t have a blending palette? Use a plastic baggie or a ceramic plate.

Step Two

After the blue paper was completely dry (speed up the process with a heat gun), I used the large butterfly die cut from The Ton Stamps and ran it through my die cut machine. This butterfly die is the coolest ever. It’s a pop-up die that flutters once it’s glued together!

Step Three

I took the 4×6 flat card, placed it into the embossing folder and through the die cut machine. Then I placed the small butterfly die cut onto the same embossed flat card and ran that through as well. Finally, I placed the small butterfly die cut onto a leftover piece of the watercolor paper and ran that through too. Next, I took that flat card and glued it onto the folded cardstock and applied the blue butterfly piece.

Step Four

I opened the card, glued the two butterfly pieces together and glued that to the center of the card. Also, I applied the remaining two flat pieces of cardstock to the right and left of the butterfly to cover the base.

Step Five

Last, I lettered a small greeting with my brush pen. That’s it. I just love how the butterfly appears to float.
