Creating with stencils is very new to me. As a kid I’d use stencils with a pen or pencil, color it in, and that was the end of it.
Now that I’m older, much older in fact (sadly), stencils have taken on a whole new meaning.
As I evolve with dot grid journaling, I incorporate several different mediums to achieve all sorts of unique looks.
This week, I watched one of my favorite movies, Grease. Frenchy is my favorite character. That moment when she revealed her pink hair at the diner was when I decided to create an all pink layout. Check it out.
Supplies
- Notebook
- Stencil
- Distress Ink
- Blending Foam and Tool
- Removable Adhesive
- Acrylic Block
- Stamp Ink
- Push Pin Stamp
- Clipboard Stamp
- Marker
- Brush Pen
- Ruler
Step One
When creating this layout, I knew I wanted the entire layout in pink. To achieve that, I grabbed my Distress Ink and Blending Foam and Tool, and made a pink page in my notebook. It’s important to note that I did not use heavy pressure when applying the ink – as I was going for a light/medium shade.
Step Two
Next, with paper and removable adhesive, I covered the areas I did not want effected by the stencil. In other words, I was creating a stencil-free section. Be sure the adhesive isn’t permanent adhesive or overly sticky, this can damage the paper and leave bald spots. Washi tape is a great alternative, just be sure to rub the tape onto a pair of jeans to lessen the stickiness.
Step Three
I put the stencil in place, and using the same Distress Ink and applicator tool, applied the ink. This time around using heavier pressure to achieve a darker shade of pink.
Step Four
Then I outlined the stencil-free area with a ruler and pink marker to really make the boxes stand out.
Step Five
I decided I needed some contrasting color and with my acrylic block, ink, and pushpin and clipboard stamp, I stamped each of the boxes.
Step Six
Last, I lettered the month with my brush pen and with my pink marker I lettered the first initial for each day of the week in each box.
