Ok friends, I have some exciting news to share. This Saturday, September 22, I will have a booth at the Arts in the Park event in The Woodlands (North Houston). It’s at the Rob Fleming Park, 3pm. UPDATE: Due to rain, this event has been postponed until October 21. It’s a free event, for more details, click here.
What will I be sharing at my booth? My very own lettering handbook. Well, I finally decided to create, I mean complete it. I started my lettering guide earlier this year, but with all planning, prepping, and packing for our move out of state, the lettering book kept getting pushed aside.
With the holidays quickly approaching, now is the perfect time to start learning. Lettering is the perfect way to personalize gifts and holiday cards.
My lettering guide will be available for purchase at my booth and available online next week. I will post more info and pictures on my social media accounts, so stay tuned.

This week with all the prepping for my booth, I’ve barely had any time to create. But I purposely set some time aside to create my weekly journal layout.
Continuing on with my fall themed layouts (see my last three here – 1, 2, 3), I’ve decided on a layout with distress inks and a stencil. I was getting a bit tired of the brown layouts, so this time around I decided my go-to fall color for this layout would be yellow. Of course there are hints of brown too, check it out.
Supplies
- Notebook
- Stencil (similar)
- Acrylic Block
- Distress Inks (3, 4, 13)
- Blending Foam and Tool
- Alphabet Stamp Set
- Calendar Stamp Set
- Banner Stamp
- Brown Brush Pen (947)
- Brown Marker
- Black Brush Pen
Step One
After placing the circle stencil on my notebook, I grabbed my Blending Foam and Tool, applied this yellow ink onto the foam, then covered the stencil with it. Once I applied the first color of ink (scattered straw), I moved the stencil over just a bit (exposing the blank spots), and applied another shade of yellow distress ink (fossilized amber). Now, my layout has this wonderful two-tone color to it. For more details on distress inks and dot grid journaling, visit this blog post. Btw, the stencil I used is old and quite stained, I couldn’t find a listing for the original, so I linked a stencil that seems similar.
Step Two
Then, I stamped the month with brown distress ink. These alphabet stamps were just released today from Ink Blot Shop and I love them already. The stamp design works perfectly with the background of this layout.
Step Three
I also used a banner stamp for this layout from The Sassy Club. After attaching the stamp to an acrylic block, I colored in the stamp with Tombow Brush Pen 947. I really like how this brown stands out and works well with the yellow, yet it is light enough to see the lettering I’ve added. With a black Tombow Brush Pen, I put the first letter of each day of the week into each banner (combining Saturday and Sunday).
Step Four
The layout was looking a bit plain so I added dots with a brown Twintone Marker to separate the days of the week. I find dots and circles so appeasing. Finally, I added a calendar stamp to the right corner of the layout. The stamp is also from Ink Blot Shop and I used the same brown distress ink that I used to stamp the month.
Hello, I was saddened to learn that this event was canceled due to the weather conditions at the time. 🙁
