Not too long ago I released Chunky Calligraphy, a guidebook about my lettering style (it’s available on Etsy).

As luck would have it, some of my social media followers contacted me to see if I would be willing to teach them my lettering style for their “Girls Night In.” I love lettering and I love teaching, how could I say no?

A few days before the event, I decided to make some treat boxes.  I thought it would be fun to give custom pillow boxes filled with candy to the eight ladies. These Halloween treats turned out so cute and went over quite well.

Check them out!

Supplies

Step One

I created the pillow box shape using a pillow box punch. It’s easy to use and the directions are simple to follow. For a sturdier pillow box, I highly suggest using cardstock or heavier paper over basic scrap paper.

Step Two

Next, I placed the pillow box shape into a Polka Dot Embossing Folder and ran it through my die-cut machine. Although this step is optional, I love the texture and design the embossing folder gives.

Step Three

After assembling the pillow box with a tiny amount of glue, I filled it with candy.

Step Four

I cut a strip of dotted scrapbook paper and made a band around the pillow box. Then I tied some orange ribbon around the box to give it more color and texture.

Step Five

Last, I stamped a bat onto a circle tag using this ink pad. I thought I was done, but because the tag looked a bit too plain and boring, I added some black Distress Ink along the edges and colored the bat’s eyes orange with the fine tip of a brush pen.
