I love it when I’m asked questions.

Most recently, I was recently asked if I could learn any other skill what would it be?

Of course, me being me, I had to break that question down a bit, I couldn’t just answer it. My response turned into a two-part question – another craft skill I want to learn or a skill that’s non-craft related?  I have answers for both.

  1. Another craft skill I want to learn – I really want to learn how to knit.  Knit stitches are beautiful and I want to make a blanket.  I should probably consider making something smaller, like a washcloth or a scarf, but I really want a homemade knitted blanket (I refuse to buy one).  About seven years ago I taught myself how to crochet but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to knit.
  2. A non-craft related skill I want to learn – This skill is one I actually contemplate often but never make a move on.  I really want to learn accounting.  Not just accounts payable and receivable, but I like the idea of understanding taxes and become a full on certified public accountant.  I’m not sure why I’m so interested in learning that skill.  I suck at math and numbers have never really been my strong suit, but I like the idea that numbers are straight forward.

Here’s a question I have for myself.  What is the likelihood of me doing either skill?  I’d say there’s a higher percentage I’d learn how to knit.  Although I love school and learning, I don’t believe it’s in me to go back to school once again.  I received my masters degree in marriage and family therapy a few years ago and that was enough research and studying for a lifetime!

With that said, maybe I should schedule some time in my journal layout and learn how to knit?!?

Anyway, here’s my last Halloween layout for the month.  Check it out.

Supplies

Step One

I started this layout by drawing eight squares with this drawing pen and ruler. Then I covered the squares with squares cut from cardstock. To ensure the cardstock doesn’t move during the coloring process, place some removable adhesive to the back.

Step Two

Next, I secured a candle stamp to an acrylic block, inked it with black stamp ink, and stamped the bottom portion of my notebook. Then I colored the flame with a yellow/orange marker. Also, the candle stamp I’m using is from www.drsdesigns.com, they make high quality genuine rubber stamps and have so many stamps to select from.

Step Three

To continue with the Halloween themed layouts, I decided to color pencil the white portions of the notebook black. Coloring the layout all black really made the candles pop out on the page. Also, I considered using black Distress Ink rather than color pencil, but I really wanted the page dark, and the darkest shade I could get with the Distress Ink was a medium/dark grey. Coloring with pencil took forever, but I’m happy with the results.

Step Four

Last, since this week is a combo month (aka the transition between October and November fall midweek), I lettered both months in the last box with a brush pen, followed by abbreviating the days of the week with a black drawing pen.

Step Five

I decided last minute to add a spider web stamp (from Hobby Lobby) on Wednesday/Halloween day.
