For those asking how my dog training is going here’s an update.
I’m prepping for my trip home to California so I’ve been quite busy. This will be my first time home since my husband and I moved to Texas (back in June).
I’ve been especially stressed because I’ll be traveling with my eight-year-old chihuahua Cinco.
See, Cinco is very clingy and needy. He howels like crazy when we are out of his line of sight or if we leave him home alone, even for just an hour. I could only imagine what a three hour flight confined in a carrier will do to him.
So, for the last two months I’ve been preparing him for this flight.
I purchased an under-the-seat dog carrier and I’ve been training him to go into the carrier daily. Increasing his time each day. At the beginning he was whimpering and whining. As much as I wanted to set him free, I knew I couldn’t and shouldn’t.
It’s taken a few weeks but it’s starting to pay itself off. Cinco seems to understand his fate and isn’t making a sound once he’s in his carrier. I hope the same behavior continues on our flight.
I considered giving him a low dose doggy sedative (vet approved) to help calm his nerves, but I just don’t feel right drugging my dog. However, I do plan on sprinkling lavender essential oils inside his carrier to help calm him down and reduce his stress. Wish me luck!
Anyway, when I need to reduce my stress I find comfort with the lavender smell while I create. Check out the layout I created while relieving my stress.
Supplies
- Notebook
- Acrylic Block
- Washi Tape
- Fall Leaf Stamps
- Dual Brush Pens
- Black Drawing Pen
- White Gel Pen
- Stencil
- Alphabet Stamps
- Number Stamps
- Stamp Block
Step One
First, I placed a strip of washi tape on the notebook as a guide. I did this so I could stamp all over the bottom section without getting any of the stamped image above the washi tape.
Step Two
Then I placed various fall leaf stamps onto an acrylic block, colored them in with my waterbased dual brush pens, and stamped them all over the bottom portion of the notebook. For the entire month of November I decided to use unique fall palette colors for all my journal layouts. Here I’m using blue (569), burgundy (757), green (158), pink (772), and peach (942) and I’m using these colors throughout the entire layout.
Step Three
Next, I lettered the month with a dark blue brush pen and added a bit of details with a white gel pen and a black drawing pen. For more on my lettering style, get my Chunky Lettering Guidebook here.
Step Four
For the next step I used my number stencil and outlined the dates in my notebook in green.
Step Five
Last, with my blue brush pen I colored in my alphabet stamps and stamped that right in the middle of the stenciled numbers.
