DIY New Years Invitation/Greeting Card www.thediyday.com @thediyday

New Year’s is just around the corner and although I’m prepping for Christmas, I am also getting some crafts ready for the 2019 celebrations.

This card was inspired by a song. Over the summer I was listening to a ’90s radio stations on Siruis radio. All Star by Smash Mouth was playing.

Of course I was singing along and then came the part of the song that goes

All that glitters is gold…

It was then that my New Year’s Eve card idea was born. Although I’m using sequins instead of glitter, it still sparkles and shines, exactly what I wanted.

Now this card is versatile. It can be used as a New Year’s Eve party invitation, a Happy New Year’s greeting, or change the color of the sequins and it can become a birthday card or some other type of celebratory card.

Although a bit time-consuming, this card turned out better than I expected. Check it out.

Supplies

Step One

I decided to use yellow cardstock for the base of this card. I used yellow because I figured it would help camouflage any bald spots that the sequins did not cover. Instead of gluing each and every sequin, I decided to work in small sections. First, I spread the liquid glue to a small portion of the cardstock. Then I dumped sequins on the glued section. For the spots that are sequin-less or for more of a layered sequin effect, just add more glue and add more sequins. Not all of the sequins will stick, so just tap the card and the loose sequins will fall. Continue this process until the card is covered with sequins.

Step Two

Now that the card is covered in sequins, it’s time to add the greeting. With my circle punch and a leftover piece of white cardstock I created a circle tag. Then with my pencil I lettered my greeting and went over it with a black drawing pen.

Step Three

To make the greeting pop, I placed a black ribbon around the sequin card and secured it with glue. I glued the greeting right on top and then placed the sequin card right on top of the folded white cardstock.
