The poinsettia plant is near and dear to me. It reminds me of my parents. As a kid during the holiday season, my parents would always bring home poinsettia plants to add to the festive decorations around the house.

When I was a teenager and old enough to make money and drive, I started buying the poinsettia plants for my parents. Sadly, the plants would often die after Christmas and that was just that.

But, a few years ago, I gave my parents a plant that is still living. My mom planted it in the backyard and it’s still surviving the Southern California weather! Crazy right?

When I created this layout, I had my parents and our poinsettia tradition in mind. This layout is simple and one of my favorites. Check it out.

Supplies

Step One

Before I started this layout, I knew I wanted big bold poinsettias on the top of the notebook and my schedule right below. To make this happen I decided to place a strip of washi tape on 1/3 of the notebook to serve as a point of reference – the stamp cannot go past the washi tape barrier.

Step Two

After placing my poinsettia stamp from DRS Designs onto an acrylic block, I inked up the stamp with black stamp ink, and placed the poinsettia over the top 1/3 of the notebook. This stamp by DRS Designs is the best- and they are made from real rubber!

Step Three

It’s time to color. I outlined and then colored the plants with my colored pencils. The bright reds and greens are absolutely perfect (the pictures don’t do these colors justice)! These colored pencils are high quality pencils. The lead is centered evenly so the pencils don’t split the way other colored pencils do.

Step Four

Last, I separated the layout into six vertically lined sections with a ruler and red marker. Then, with a black drawing pen I wrote in each day of the week and combined Saturday and Sunday together.
