I made a beautiful notecard by complete accident.  That happy little accident turned into some additional notecard designs.

As I was painting some Easter crafts, I was periodically cleaning off my square brush on leftover white cardstock.  About half way through the project I noticed a design starting to take shape.  Intrigued, I continued the pattern that I accidentally started and realized this piece of cardstock was turning into a greeting card.

I continued my Easter crafts and decided to continue cleaning the brush in various designs.  The liquid gilding has such a pretty gold metallic luster. I want to paint everything with it. See the other stationery I made with the liquid gilding here.

I have three words of advice when using this gilding-

  1. open the window when creating with it, the fumes are strong.
  2. the gilding goes a long way.  If the brush is too wet with gilding and then placed on cardstock, it will seep through to the other side, discoloring the cardstock.  If this happens, consider designing on a flat card, then glue it to a folded notecard (this hides the parts that seeped through).
  3. use 110lb cardstock (it’s a bit more expensive than standard cardstock).  It has a nice quality feel to it, similar to notecards purchased at a stationery store.

Anyway, I’m still working on my Easter craft so stay tuned for that post.  In the mean time, check out my liquid gilding notecards.

Supplies

Flat Brush Card

This card was the accident card. It was simply made just by painting in short downward strokes on cardstock with the gold liquid gilding left on my brush.

Circle Flat Brush Card

This card was totally planned. I wanted a card with imperfect gold circles. In order to get imperfect circles, I needed to create them in a perfect circle. With a pencil and circle stencil, I made several circles on a 4×6 piece of cardstock. Then with some gilding on my brush, I placed the brush on the paper with the bristles flaring out and I rotated the brush within each circle. Wait until the paint is completely dry before erasing the pencil markings.

Horizontal Lines Card

I really got out of my comfort zone with this card. Instead of doing my usual style, straight lines with a ruler, I decided to create these beautiful golden lines freehand.  Before drawing the lines by freehand, I drew straight lines with pencil and a ruler.  I wanted to make sure the freehand lines stayed within the allotted space.  I used this waterbrush for the imperfect lines and this card turned out better than I expected.
