I’m on this huge kick with celebrating Spring. So much so, this will be the third layout in a row that is floral related (see the previous two posts here and here). I couldn’t help myself and for good reason.
I just experienced my first winter in Michigan (I’ve spent all my other winters in SoCal). Winter here is no joke, the coldest I’ve ever experienced, -20° is pretty darn cold. And, I’ve been told by multiple people, that it’s been a mild winter…ok I guess!
I admit, I enjoyed every single one of those cold, snowy, blizzard-y days. But I’m ready to experience Spring in Michigan. With that being said, my latest journal layout has to do with florals, what better way to ring in the new season. This layout is extremely simple, only takes one set of floral stamps, and if I had more time, I probably would’ve colored in the flowers. Check it out.
Supplies
- Notebook
- Washi Tape
- Dahlia Stamps
- Acrylic Block
- Distress Inks (1, 13, 15)
- Tombow Brush Pen (177)
- Fudenosuke Brush Pen
Step One
After creating the areas for the days of the week, cover the areas with paper and washi tape. I cover the area before stamping because I like having the look of a full bleed layout, meaning I’m covering all the white space – down to the edges of the notebook. I use leftover scrapbook paper and cardstock, it’s a great way to get rid of all those small pieces.
Step Two
Next, I placed various floral dahlia stamps from The Ton Stamps on an acrylic block, inked it with red, coral, and pink Distress Inks, and then stamped the image everywhere.
Step Three
Once the page was full of dahlias, I used three different leaf stamps from the set to cover the smaller spots on the layout. Instead of using stamp ink, I decided to color the stamp with a beautiful green Tombow Dual Brush Pen 177. When using the marker method, be sure to use water based markers, they don’t dry as quick as alcohol based markers.
Step Four
With the same green marker, separate the layout with dots. I decided on dots over straight lines because I thought bold lines would distract from the beautiful floral border.
Step Five
Last, I abbreviated and lettered the days of the week into each box with a Tombow Fudenosuke Pen, using the last box as a section for notes.
