The temperature here in Michigan jumps around like crazy. On Monday it was 72° and just a couple of days later it’s snowing.
This past weekend, in the 70° weather, we took a road trip to Lake Huron which is a short 90 minutes away from where we live. The lake is huge and stretches for miles! We trekked down a few more miles to visit the bridge that connects Michigan to Canada. That was the closest I’ve ever been to Canada and as basic as it sounds, it was kinda neat to see another country from afar. In a few weeks we plan to take another road trip to cross the bridge and explore Canada. I cannot wait.
On our drive I was brainstorming my creative process and decided to make some updates to my craft. I’ve been getting a little bored with my dot grid journal layouts and I want to bring something new to the table. Nothing too drastic, just a little facelift. Maybe add some texture, layers, or more colors.
With that in mind, this week’s layout kinda encompasses a different design than my norm, and it has layers. Check it out.
Supplies
- Notebook
- Month and Week Stamps
- Acrylic Block
- White Stamp Ink (similar)
- Black Sheets of Paper (not cardstock)
- Washi Tape
- Corner Punch
Step One
I started this layout by trimming leftover pieces of black paper. The thickness of this paper is equivalent to copy paper, not thick at all. The size is 2.5×3.5.
Step Two
Then I stamped the month and days of the week stamps from Ink Blot Shop onto each sheet. I placed the stamps onto an acrylic block, and inked it with white stamp ink. The stamp ink I’m using is typically used for embossing. The dry time takes awhile and has a tendency to smear. Use a heat gun to expedite the drying process and cut down the smear marks.
Step Three
Instead of straight-edged corners, I wanted the paper to have rounded corners, so I used a rounded corners paper punch to achieve that look.
Step Four
Last, I tore washi tape by hand and adhered each piece of stamped paper to the notebook.
