When it comes to greeting cards or postcards I love to make my own. There’s just something very satisfying with creating something one of a kind and sending it off.
This time around I’ve decided to create some simple watercolor postcards. When I say simple, I really mean simple, kid friendly too. Check it out!
Supplies
- Watercolor Paper (trim)
- Watercolor Powder or Water-based Markers
- Sheet Protector or Sandwich Bag
- Hair Dryer or Heat Gun
- Spray Bottle (filled with water)
- Alphabet Stamps
- Skillshare (learn to emboss)
Step One
Use this technique with watercolor powder –
First, I lightly sprayed the sheet protector with water. For visible paint splatters, don’t over saturate the sheet protector with water. Then sprinkle powder right on top of the water drops.
Use this technique with water-based markers –
Color the sheet protector with water-based markers, then lightly spray the sheet protector with water (too much water will cause the ink colors to become pastel and hardly visible).
Step Two
Gently place the watercolor paper right over the surface of the colorful water, just enough for the water droplets to transfer to the paper.
Step Three
Use a heat gun or blow dryer to expedite the paper dry time. Once the paper is fully dry, add another layer on top of the first by repeating step two. Continue repeating step two until the desired look is achieved. Be sure to dry each layer before re-dipping the paper otherwise the layered splatter look (aka lighter and darker splatters) won’t work.
Step Four
Once the paper is dry, leave it as it is or add more design with stamps, embossing, doodles, or hand-lettering. I chose embossing. For more on embossing, see my tutorial on Skillshare and receive two months of classes for free.
