When I was a kid at Disneyland, I always wanted one of those balloons inside of a balloon (the one with Mickey’s face inside a clear balloon). I never did get that balloon and I never really thought about it until now. It all makes perfect sense.

Here’s some backstory – as a kid, a trip to Disneyland wasn’t an every week or every year occurrence. So, when my family went to Disneyland it was a big thing…a big expensive thing (I come from a family of 6).

Now- back to being denied this balloon and the explanations I came up with –

1. First off, a balloon at Disneyland is probably $162 nowadays, so back then, it was likely $85. There is no way my parents would spend that much money on balloons (for 4 kids). It just wasn’t going to happen.

2. My parents weren’t stroller parents at Disneyland. We walked. So, we didn’t have any place to leave balloons when we went on rides.

3. My parents already knew I wouldn’t hold the balloon all day long and they didn’t want to be stuck holding the darn thing (this wasn’t their first rodeo, I am kid #3).

4. To piggy back on reason number 1, the helium balloon would only last 15 or so hours and then end up in the trash…there goes that investment.

5. My parents had other ideas in mind for a Disney souvenir. As we wrapped up our day at the park, my parents took us to the gift shop where we got those plush Minnie and Mickey dolls. Those lasted way longer than any balloon ever would.

So there it is. My assessment on being denied a balloon.

As I made this alphabet balloon card, I thought to myself, what should accompany this card? Balloons? Nope. It’s a waste of money… See there, I’m turning into my parents. Anyway, it’s kinda funny how a balloon stamp triggered a Disneyland memory, so weird how that happens.
