Chevron Greeting Card www.thediyday.com @thediyday

For at least two years I’ve wanted a chevron paper punch but I could never find the right one. Either the chevron was too small or it was too thin or the price just wasn’t within my budget. Craft supplies are expensive, right? Because the punch was just for fun and not an absolute necessity I didn’t bother pining over not having one and left it at that.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago. I went to Joann’s to pick up some fabric. As I was making my way through the store, I stumbled across the clearance section. Just kidding I didn’t stumble there, that’s one of the first places I go when I visit a craft store. There’s some killer deals in the aisle.

As I was perusing the Christmas section, there it was, with a big bright beam shining down on the one and only chevron punch. This punch is beefy and is about 2 inches wide x 1 inch tall. To my luck it was 75% off too. I ended up paying about $5 and some change…way better than the $40 price tag I’d seen a few years back.

Last week, I was on a card making binge and made all sorts of greeting cards. See the macaron greeting card and matching envelope I made here and of course, the one I made with the chevron punch.

Supplies

Step One

I started this layout by punching a bunch of chevrons in black and leopard print cardstock.

Step Two

Then I used Tombow Mono Removable Adhesive to apply the chevrons onto the neon pink cardstock (which is attached to the white heavy weight cardstock). I wanted a little bit of the neon pink to peek through the card so I left some spacing between the rows of chevron. I didn’t measure the spacing, just eyeballed it. Please note, I’m using the removable adhesive because it’s easy to re-position the chevrons (without ripping the paper) if needed.  After all the chevrons were placed, I trimmed off the excess from the card.

Step Three

Next, I punched a paper frame, lettered hello with a Tombow Fudenosuke Dual Tip Pen, added some dots with a Tombow Mono Drawing Pen (05), and added a black brad for decor. Because this card is a DIY, just change the greeting and this card can be used for an invitation for girls night out, a bachelorette party, or any kind of party really. The possibilities are endless.

Step Four

Because I wanted the greeting to pop-up from the rest of the card, I added a few Tombow 3D Foam Tabs to the back of the hello before placing it on the bottom portion of the card.
