I often get asked how I come up with the designs for my journals. And my answer is always the same. I have no idea. Really.
I don’t brainstorm it out, nor do I draft it out or have a practice run before recording the video. It’s more of a go with the flow process.
When I say it’s a go with the flow process it really is. For example, the calendar I made for May (see it here) was hiccup after hiccup during it’s entire creation.
Firstly, the flower stamps were already on my desk from a different project, so I figured I may as well use them since I didn’t clean them yet. Secondly, I never intended on having flowers on both sides of the calendar. It only ended up that way because apparently I can’t measure, align, or count. Thirdly, when I started stamping the flowers, I decided I was going to color them in, but that didn’t happen.
Mid-way through I seriously considered redoing the entire page. But due to lack of time, laziness, and irritation, I decided to see it to the end. Luckily I did. It didn’t turn out the way I wanted – and yet it’s my favorite page I’ve made so far. What a conundrum, right?
Anyway, this layout closes out the month of May; I can’t wait to see what June has in store!
