I recently took a bit of a break from social media. It was a much-needed break and gave me the chance to recharge my creative ideas.
I can’t remember a time where I took time off from Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube. All I know is I need to do that more often!
Anyway, I’m back at with a very fun birthday card. This design came to mind during my days off. I didn’t want to forget the idea so I wrote it down and decided to bring it to life on another day.
Check it out.
Supplies
- White Cardstock (1 sheet)
- White folded Card (size 5×6)
- Ranger Distress Ink (kit 1, kit 3, kit 13)
- Ranger Foam and Application Tool
- Hexagon Die Cut (similar)
- Die Cut Machine
- Tombow Brush Pen
- Tombow Drawing Pen
- Black Ribbon
- Tombow Glue
- Scissors
Step One
With my black ink and application tool, I started applying color onto a white piece of cardstock. About a third of the way down, I began blending the bluish/green ink, followed by the sky blue ink. I changed the foam each time I changed the ink color.
Step Two
Then, I grabbed my hexagon die cut and die cut machine. I cut strips of the colored cardstock and fed that into the machine creating a bunch of hexagons with varying gradients.
Step Three
Once I had all of the hexagon die cuts created, I started gluing them onto a 5″ x 6″ folded white piece of cardstock. I arranged the hexagon colors similar to the color scheme I used when applying the inks (black, blue/green, sky blue). Because I wanted a honeycomb design, some of the hexagon rows hang partially off of the card, this is expected.
Step Four
Now that all of the hexagons are glued on the card, it’s time to cut off the parts of the hexagon that aren’t entirely on the card. I shaped the card with my scissors.
Step Five
Next, I glued a strip of black ribbon toward the bottom of the card.
With another hexagon die cut, I lettered ‘Happy Birthday’ and glued it to the top of the ribbon.
To finish off the card I added a few grey embellishments. This card turned out exactly like I had visioned during my day off!
