Easter is a little over two weeks away and I’ve just started creating my cards. Now I don’t send out a bunch of cards like I do for Christmas, but I do make “thinking of you” cards for my family.
As I was gathering materials to create this card I realized I didn’t have any Easter themed stamps, die cuts, or decorations so I decided to improvise.
I grabbed some watercolor paper and all of my pastel colored cardstock and just stared at it. Finally, an idea came to mind and drawing it was my only answer. I didn’t feel like leaving the house or spending money on supplies, so with my pen and watercolor paper, I drew a chick.
After I had the subject for my card, the rest of the design came easy. Check it out.
Supplies
- Watercolor Paper
- Cardstock (white and pastel colors)
- Waterbrush
- Watercolor Powder
- Scissors
- Die-Cut Machine
- Frame Shape Die-Cut
- Brush Pen
- Black Drawing Pen
- Embossing Folders (dots and paisley)
- Glue
- Tassel Ribbon
- 3D Foam Tabs
- Envelope Punch
Step One
After scouring the internet for a picture of a cute chick, I finally found an easy one to draw on watercolor paper. Once that was complete, I sprinkled yellow watercolor powder to paint the body and orange powder to paint its beak and feet. This powder is super fun, read more about it here.
Then I cut out the chick and put it to the side.
Step Two
I wanted to include a greeting to the front of the card so I decided to use a frame shaped die cut. After cutting the die in my die-cut machine, I lettered my greeting ‘Happy Easter’ with my brush pen and black drawing pen.
Step Three
To help give the card a bit more design without using too much color I decided to use two embossing folders. I placed a couple pieces of pastel cardstock into the embossing folders, put it through the die-cut machine and all of a sudden the pastel papers were easily transformed with some fun designs – dots and paisley prints.
Step Four
This is where I glued all of the layers together with Tombow Mono Adhesive Glue. I used white cardstock for the base of the card. Then I added the yellow dotted cardstock to the the top portion of the card and the pink paisley cardstock to the bottom.
I also glued the pink fringe ribbon where the yellow and pink cardstock join together.
I put some 3d Foam Tabs on the back of the chick and placed it on the yellow portion of the card. Last, I glued the ‘Happy Easter’ frame tag to the paisley pink cardstock.
I made an envelope for this card using my envelope punch board, for more details on that, click here.
