I’ve received a ton questions asking what I was planning on doing with this watercolor painting. Well, I’ve decided to create an envelope with an envelope punch board. I have a matching card to go with it which I will share in an upcoming post. Anyway, I’ve been using this punch forever and I absolutely love making my own envelopes (it’s so personal). For more on this punch board, check out my tutorial on YouTube. Additional details are on this blog post.
Original Post
The other day I was in Home Depot and from afar I spotted some neon colored cactus and succulents. Yes, that’s right neon. I was interested in this strange phenomenon and had to see if what I was seeing was for real.
Yep, they were for real. Apparently some company decided to spray paint and sell succulents and cactus. Crazy right?
I’m all for the cactus and succulent craze, really I am. But painting them and hiding that beautiful green coloring?!? That’s ridiculous.
The company advertises that the paint is non-toxic, but why ruin an already good thing?
Anyway, after that little succulent situation I decided to watercolor some cactus and succulents. Check it out.
Supplies
- Envelope Punch Board
- Cactus/Succulents Stamps
- Brush Pens
- Brush (round 1 and 4)
- Acrylic Block
- Watercolor Paper
- Drawing Pen
- White Paint
Step One
First, I placed a stamp onto an acrylic block and colored the stamp with various green water-based brush pens. If doing this technique, it’s important to use water-based because they are liquefiable.
Step Two
Then, I stamped the image onto watercolor paper, dipped my brush in water, and turned the stamped image into a watercolor image. I continued Steps One and Two until the entire page was full of cactus and succulents.
Step Three
Once dried, I added some prickly bits to the cactus with a black pen and some dots with white paint and a brush.
