We moved…again. Not in the same city and not in the same county. We aren’t even in the same state any longer.
After living in Southern California for my entire life, my husband and I decided to move out-of-state to Southeastern part of Texas. Less than six months later…we celebrated the New Year in Michigan.
We’ve been here for almost three weeks and I’m loving all these new experiences. I’m a SoCal girl so the cold and the snow is completely foreign to me. My husband was in the Navy and is originally from Washington State, so he’s used to the weather and living all over the place.
When we moved out of California, we gave ourselves three months to mentally and physically prepare for the move. But for our move out of Texas, we had less than three weeks. And we did it without a hitch. It was unfortunate that we had to pack and unpack and then do it all over again in such a short period of time, but we were so excited for this new chapter in our lives.
During our time in Texas it was hot and humid just about every single day. Our wardrobe consisted of shorts and flip-flops. That wasn’t going to cut it in Michigan. The most wintery piece of clothing I had were Ugg boots and the snow completely soaked through them. I had to step up my game and get snow boots, The North Face is my bff. I now need to wear layers under my jeans and thermals, lots of them.
In Texas we had the air conditioner running all day and night long. But in Michigan, the heater is on 24/7. It’s only snowed a bit since we arrived and I anxiously await the first major snowfall.
It’s amazing how life turns on a dime. I cannot wait to see what else 2019 has to offer.
Here’s my journal layout for the week. The great part of this layout is it can be designed even more simpler, without the stencil and distress inks. Check it out.
Supplies
- Journal
- Ruler
- Stencil (similar)
- Ranger Distress Ink (#1 #4 )
- Ranger Ink Applicator Tool
- Tombow Mono Drawing Pen (05)
Step One
It’s been cold and grey so I just had to create a yellow layout, it reminds me of the sun. For this, I applied Mustard Seed Distress Ink onto an ink applicator tool and colored right on top of a polka dot stencil. After the entire notebook was colored with the first yellow, I slightly shifted the polka dot stencil over, enough to cover the previous stenciled circles and applied the Scattered Straw Distress Ink.
Step Two
Next, with a Tombow Mono Drawing Pen, I lettered the month in the bottom right corner. With the same pen and a ruler, I drew the outside border and 8 boxes, one for each day of the week and a section for notes/doodles. The lengths and sizes of the boxes vary in size, and I purposely made Monday and Tuesday larger because those are my busiest days.
Step Three
Last, I lettered the days of the week using the same lettering style as I did with the month.
