The Leftover Scrap Paper Greeting Card www.thediyday.com @thediyday

I’ve been on a little vacation from blogging and I’m so happy to be back. I can’t share what’s been going on just yet, but I will very soon.

For now, I’m sharing a card. A very simple card that’s primarily made from cardstock scraps from other projects.

During my time away from blogging, I severely organized, rearranged, and deep cleaned my office. Goodness gracious I found unopened and unused supplies. Yep, it (or I) was a bit of a mess.

In the midst of my cleaning madness, I finally reached the “leftover drawer”. It’s the drawer that holds all of my paper scraps. See, when I use scrapbook paper and cardstock I can’t seem to throw away any parts of those leftover pieces. Even if the piece is a mere 2” x 3” strip – I keep it.

I decided to empty the drawer straight into the recycle. But at the very last second, I felt a twinge of guilt. My mom’s voice was going through my head and telling me not to waste paper. I’m in Michigan and my mom is in California and she still has a profound effect over my decisions.

Luckily I listened to my mom. I totally used those scraps and created some bright cheerful greeting cards – one of which will be sent to her.

Although a heart die-cut makes this card easier to create, a die-cut machine or a die-cut heart may not be available. Therefore, I have a simple alternative. Print this Heart pdf and cut along the outline. Then, trace the heart onto a piece of cardstock and cut out the inside of the heart. Proceed as the video shows.

The size of the pdf Heart fits a 4.5” x 6.5” card with nine strips of cardstock trimmed to 0.5” wide.  The length of the strip should cover both ends of the heart.
