Memories are so weird. The way thoughts pop-up from out of nowhere just baffles me. This time around the memory comes from my childhood. Adult me was laughing at kid me. Here it goes.
As a kid, I distinctly remember how excited I was when I received a cat wall calendar as a gift. Yes, my obsession with calendars and planning goes way back.
I was a judg-y little seven-year-old. I’d look at the cats and question how certain ones made it on the calendar and often wish that my birth month, November, had a better cuter cat picture. I totally judged the calendar people for not giving November a better looking cat; the cat always had a look of caution, terror, or fright.
The dissatisfaction with monthly cat pictures extended to other monthly representations, birthstones and gemstones.
The birthstone for November is Topaz/Citrine. As a kid, I hated it. Who wants a yellow stone? Amethysts and Emeralds are way prettier colors.
I was a superstitious kid too, thanks to my grandma. She told me wearing other month’s birthstones was bad luck, so I never did!
Adult me wonders why I was so competitive with the other months? I was an odd child, lol.
Anyway, while I’m on the topic of jewels, I’ve chosen a unique fall color palette for my journal layout this week. It’s all jewel toned colors; without realizing, I left out any form of yellow or Topaz/Citrine color. Check it out.
Supplies
- Notebook
- Ruler
- Feather Stamps
- Acrylic Block
- Black Drawing Pen
- Tombow Dual Brush Pens (346, 565, 636, 757, 899)
- Tombow Fudenosuke Twin Brush Pen
- Washi Tape
Step One
In my notebook, I made eight equal sized boxes with my drawing pen and ruler. Then I covered the inside edges with washi tape to block off any ink marks from touching the inside of the boxes.
Step Two
Next, I placed various feather stamps onto an acrylic block. Instead of inking the stamps with a traditional ink pad I used my Tombow Dual Brush Pens (346, 565, 636, 757, 899). I colored directly onto the stamp and then pressed it on the page. With the washi tape in place, I can stamp as close to the edge of the boxes as I want without getting ink on the interior of the boxes.
Step Three
Last, I lettered the month and days of the week into each box with one of my favorite brush pens.
