For the next four months it’ll be birthday celebration overload. So I’ve decided to get a jump-start on card making.
Rather than buy a store-bought card, I’d rather buy craft supplies to make my own. It’s much more fun that way. Quite frankly, it’s more affordable too. Spending $5 on a card makes me cringe. Surprisingly, I can get a couple of craft supplies for cheaper and I can extend its use for years.
For example, I bought this polka dot embossing folder for $2. Originally it was $5, but I had a 60% off coupon. Can’t beat that, right?
Anyway, I’ve been on an embossing folder kick lately, so stay tuned for additional ways to use them.
Check out the birthday card I made for my nephew.
Supplies
- Dot Embossing Folder
- Circle Die Cuts (similar)
- Die Cut Machine
- Cardstock (shades of blue)
- Acrylic Block
- Tombow Mono Drawing Pen
- Art-C Stamp and Die Cut Set
- Tombow 3D Foam Tabs
- Tombow Mono Aqua Liquid Glue
- Stamp Ink
- Black Ribbon
Step One
First, the size of this card is 5×7 (the exact size of the embossing folder). I started this card by placing the blue flat base of the card into the dot embossing folder and running it through a die-cut machine.
Step Two
Then, to get the circle punch-out look, I randomly placed graduated circle die-cuts right on top of the embossed blue card base and ran it through the die cut machine.
Step Three
Next, I placed the graduated circle die-cuts onto 3 different shades of blue cardstock and ran that through the die-cut machine. Then I placed those circles in the dot embossing folder and ran them through the machine too.
Step Four
I loosely placed a thin strip of ribbon to the top of white folded cardstock and added the blue flat base right on top, adhering it with Tombow Mono Aqua Liquid Glue. Then I glued the embossed dot circles into their coordinating spots.
Step Five
After running the Art-C banner die-cut through the die-cut machine, I placed the happy birthday stamp from the set onto an acrylic block, applied stamp ink, and stamped the image on the banner die cut. The tail of the die-cut wasn’t working for me so I cut that portion off and added a simple lined border using a Tombow Mono Drawing Pen.
Step Six
I trimmed and glued the thin black ribbon to the front of the card, gave the stamp sentiment a 3D raised look with Tombow 3D Foam Tabs and placed it right on top of the ribbon.
